2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) – The Winners
Dubbed by some as the Academy Awards of the watch world, the annual event held its ceremonies November 8th, 2017 in Geneva. Here’s a rundown.
Once a year, the watch world gathers to celebrate the hottest novelties of 2017. Continuing our third year as partner of GPHG, Watchonista was on-hand to celebrate an evening of glitz, glamour, and phenomenal timepieces. The night began with a touching ceremony to honor the master enameler Suzanne Rohr and her apprentice Anita Porchet. Seeing the 80yr old, recently retired Rohr humbly accept the Special Jury Prize was my favorite moment of the night. Bvlgari, Chopard, and Parmigiani Fleurier were multiple award winners of the night. Bvlgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin gave multiple rousing acceptance speeches, with him calling on the industry to “stop embracing past icons and create new ones.”
Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) announces the 2017 finalists
The GPHG has announced the finalists for the 2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. The prize ceremony will take place November 8th, 2017 at the Theatre Du Leman in Geneva. Today, Watchonista presents you with a preview of the watches that made it to the final round
Since its founding in 2001, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) has been recognizing some of the best novelties of our industry. Each year, brands vie for the coveted Aiguille D’Or (Best in Show) prize. Winning a GPHG award can put your brand on the map. Each year, the show sets the bar for what defines the best in horology. On Sept 1, 2017, the GPHG announced the finalists for each of their 12 categories. The final jury deliberations and selections will occur just before the Nov 8th award ceremony.
The Pre-Selected Watches
The watches pre-selected for the GPHG, as well as the winners, take part in a travelling exhibition that enables an international audience to discover and admire the finest timepieces of the year, exceptionally united on this occasion. This exhibition is held each year in the countries that generate the greatest interest in the watch market.
